Curriculum Intent

At Cherry Tree Academy the aim of our curriculum is to be ambitious, provide opportunities for our children to develop as independent, confident, successful learners with high aspirations who know how to make a positive contribution to their community and the wider society.

We use the Early Learning Goals and the National Curriculum as milestones throughout school.

There is a high focus on developing our children’s knowledge in all subjects in sequential and progressive steps. This is underpinned by immersing our children in a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts which help them to connect with the world around them, equipping our children for life outside of education in a modern and diverse Britain and beyond. Quality reading material is the golden thread which runs through all aspects of school life; therefore, we take a cross-curricular approach.

Our focus on curriculum development has been carefully designed to ensure prior learning is embedded. At Cherry Tree Academy, each area of the curriculum is built in a way that will make sure that each child develops knowledge that is underpinned with a variety of core skills and key concepts and builds on prior learning.

At Cherry Tree Academy, we provide pupils with memorable experiences, in addition to diverse and rich opportunities, which children can learn and develop a range of transferable skills.

We make it our mission to support our children’s development of their moral, spiritual, social and cultural understanding of the whole child, so they can celebrate and respect the diversity of our community and to keep themselves and others emotionally safe.

We aim for our children to enjoy their education and to make progress throughout the curriculum and all aspects of their learning – where educational excellence is at the heart of all that we do through meaningful experiences, with opportunities to make long lasting memories and celebrate children’s successes.

We will support all our children retain new knowledge and make links in their learning underpinned by innovative and research-based pedagogies, ensuring our children not only know, understand and remember more but are also prepared for the next part of their educational journey.

At Cherry Tree, we help our children retain new knowledge and make links in their learning. Those who are most able are challenged and supported through appropriate extension activities. Children who require additional support, including those with an identified an additional need, are given targeted support to embed knowledge and skills, learning in a style that best suits their needs. We are dedicated to developing achievement whatever the starting point of our children, we are committed to supporting all pupils and learners and ensuring that they reach their potential.

The children’s own community is frequently used as a starting point for engaging interest.

At the heart of our school, the focus of our curriculum is to raise aspirations, engender a sense of personal pride in positive characteristics and achievement, and provide a purpose and relevance for learning.

As the school serves a community where there is a high percentage of disadvantaged pupils, we provide activities that children may not otherwise experience.

The development of communication, language and increasing children’s vocabulary is high priority of Cherry Trees Academy.

We recognise that our children need both a sense of valuing themselves and developing aspirations for their future and for their community.

We aim to relentlessly pursue growth and excellence – everyday.
